Junction 5 of the M61 sits on the northern edge of the town, and the A58 runs between Bolton and Wigan. Westhoughton has two stations, Westhoughton and Daisy Hill.
The town is remembered for the Pretoria Pit disaster of 1910, one of the worst mining disasters in British history. Today its streets are a mix of terraces, inter-war semis and new estates.
In the older parts of town, cars are usually parked on the street; on the newer estates, on drives. Tell the driver which applies and they will plan accordingly.
