Manchester City Council covers the city itself, one of the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester. Salford, Trafford and Stockport, all close to the centre, have their own councils, which is worth knowing when you deal with parking permits.
The Mancunian Way loops around the south of the city centre, the M60 rings the wider conurbation, and Princess Parkway runs south to Wythenshawe and the airport. Greater Manchester has not introduced a charging clean air zone for private cars.

City-centre apartments often have underground parking with height limits; terraces in Fallowfield and Levenshulme have tight streets.

Then cancel insurance and any residents' permit.
Fallowfield, Withington and Rusholme house thousands of students, and residents’ parking schemes operate in parts of these areas. Cars left behind at the end of a tenancy are best scrapped properly rather than abandoned, which the council can treat as an offence.
Wythenshawe, one of the largest housing developments in the country when it was built, is part of the city of Manchester, stretching south towards the airport. Its homes mostly have their own frontages or nearby parking, so collection is simple.
Didsbury, Chorlton and Withington, in the south of the city, combine Edwardian streets with tree-lined avenues. Parking can be tight near the shopping parades and tram stops, so give the driver a quieter side road if the car is kept close to them. In the north, Harpurhey, Blackley and Moston are mostly residential streets with on-street parking.
