The M20 ends just beyond Folkestone, where the A20 continues along the cliffs to Dover. The Eurotunnel terminal lies at Cheriton, between the motorway and the town, and the A260 climbs north over the Downs to Hawkinge.
Salt in the air near the coast speeds up corrosion, and plenty of Folkestone cars fail their MOT for rust long before their engines give up. When the welding bill outweighs the car’s value, scrapping it is the sensible answer.
The town climbs steeply from the harbour to the Leas clifftop, and some streets near the seafront are narrow or one-way. If your car is parked on a hill, tell the driver which way it faces and whether the handbrake holds.
When cross-Channel traffic is heavy, queues and lorry-holding measures on the M20 can slow journeys. Agreeing a time window rather than a fixed time keeps collection relaxed.
