The West Midlands · city guide
Coventry was once the centre of the British motor industry, and the city still has a close relationship with the car. When one reaches the end of its life here, the process is simple and the city’s roads make collection quick.

Coventry City Council covers the whole city. The A4053 ring road wraps tightly around the centre, with junctions every few hundred metres, and the A45 and A46 skirt the south and east of the city towards Birmingham, Warwick and Leicester.
The city did not introduce a charging clean air zone; it improved roads and junctions instead. Older cars here face no daily charge, so the decision to scrap comes down to condition and running costs.
Terraced areas such as Earlsdon and Foleshill have on-street parking; outer estates such as Tile Hill and Allesley tend to have drives.
Registration and postcode; mention any classic interest if the car is an older Coventry-built model.
Free, at a time you agree.
Tell the DVLA, cancel insurance and any residents' permit.
Coventry built cars for over a century, and the Coventry Transport Museum tells that story. If yours is an older locally built model in decent condition, check with an owners’ club before scrapping; a restorer may value it more.
Coventry University sits in the city centre, and the University of Warwick lies on the city’s southern edge, which means plenty of student cars and plenty of streets with residents’ parking schemes nearby. A car left behind after a tenancy can be scrapped properly rather than left to be reported as abandoned.
University Hospital, at Walsgrave on the eastern side of the city, has strict parking controls on the surrounding roads. If your car is kept nearby, arranging collection from a home address or private space avoids any difficulty.
